Outside work

I have various interests. I am a Girlguide Leader and Outdoor Activities Advisor for Perth and Kinross Guiding. In 2007 I was selected as Assistant Leader for a group of Guides who visited Singapore. I regularly take part and help to organise guide camps, outings. I enjoy every minute of it, especially meeting a whole new group of friends from various different backgrounds, all with a common interest in helping girls and young women to develop their potential. I have recently started with Duke of Edinburgh (Perth Open) as an Assistant Leader on Expeditions and love the outdoors environment, no matter the weather.

I really enjoy walking, abseiling and climbing, as a personal goal am currently working through various qualifications to progress in these fields with the view to using these skills to benefit kids in GirlGuiding and Duke of Edinburgh schemes.

What inspired me to get into graphic design?

On a backpacking trip Ellen worked with a production company in Australia Neil Cameron Productions. They specialise in colossal theatrical Fire Events; Ellen helped his stage props and sets for "The Wicker Man" and "Dantés Inferno" in 1995/96.

"I had a fantastic time while assisting Neil Cameron Productions, I helped with design and build of stage sets and props. I realised then that I would like a career in Design of some kind, but wasn't sure what. After my travels I decided to research various design courses and embarked on my 3 years of study in Graphic Design."

The stage props were made using bamboo for the frame which was then covered in grease proof paper, alu foil and pvu glue.

This combination of bamboo, foil and glue makes the prop relatively sturdy and suitably fire retardant for the performance.

The Boat: this took several weeks to build and was lit up from inside during the performance.

All people taking part had to be covered in clay to reduce the risk of burns from sparks or getting too close to the fire.
